Commissioning projects for world’s leading copper producer FQML
PPM Global has been playing a key role for more than 10 years in the sucessful commissioning for one of the world’s leading copper producers First Quantum Minerals Limited.
FQML first engaged PPM as a sub-contractor in 2004 with commissioning of the Kansanshi Copper project in Zambia, Africa, that involved commissioning of the first SX/EW trains running at 60 ktpa of copper cathode.
Kansanshi continued to grow the process plant with small in-house projects that soon had PPM back to commission the service equipment around clarification and leaching.
FQML initiated the 12 Mtpa expansion comprising a major upgrade of the Kansanshi project. This delivered SX/EW five and six and six new Counter Current Decantation (CCD) thickeners. Two of the CCD thickeners were a record-breaking 50m in diameter.
The upgrade also included new raffinate ponds, four clarifiers and supporting equipment.
Sentinel Copper Project
Following on from PPM’s work at Kansanshi, Africa, PPM was awarded several packages of work to support construction completion and commissioning of the massive 55 Mtpa Sentinel Project.
With up to 12 process engineering specialists involved across a number of disciplines, PPM played a key role in the commissioning and ramp up at the Sentinel copper project.
PPM continues to support the Sentinel Project with a mechanical engineer on site assisting with engineering “mop up” projects.
